Abstract
Metacognitive reflection is an essential pedagogical mechanism for developing students’ self-awareness and self-regulation. It enables learners to examine their thinking processes, evaluate the effectiveness of their study strategies, and make deliberate adjustments to improve future learning outcomes. Research shows that reflection becomes especially effective when it is structured through prompts, planning tools, guided evaluation, and repeated opportunities for feedback. This article presents an expanded IMRAD-style discussion of how metacognitive reflection supports independent learning, academic responsibility, and strategic behavior in students. The analysis is based on eight verifiable sources and is written in a form suitable for a Word document.
